A Letter from Global Volunteer Network:
To whom it may concern,
I am writing on behalf of Kasia Koltunska who is participating in a volunteer program offered through our organization, Global Volunteer Network.
We are a Non–Governmental organization based in Wellington, New Zealand, which places people in a range of volunteer opportunities including teaching, environmental and humanitarian work in countries around the world, such as the Philippines, Nepal, Romania, Tanzania, Kenya and Ecuador.
Kasia has been accepted as a volunteer in our Kenya Volunteer Program and will be working with a local Kenyan organization, Volunteer Internship Community Development - Africa (VICDA), for 6 weeks starting in May 2006.
The goal of volunteering in Kenya is to offer underprivileged children a future. We hope to provide children with the basic necessities of life – love, food, clothing and shelter – and also provide them with an education, so they can advance towards the same opportunities as their peers around the world.
During Kasia’s 6 weeks she will be caring for orphans, street children and abused children at a Kenya orphanage. Volunteers, like Kasia, take on the role of sibling to the children. A relationship that is often taken for granted, but these children are without.
The Orphanage Kasia will be working with is not government funded. They rely on the kindness of others to donate resources urgently needed. They are in need of donations like children’s clothing, antibacterial soap, antibiotics, antiseptics, toothpaste, toothbrushes, coloured drawing paper, kids scissors, pencils/pens/markers/crayons, books of all sorts (colouring in books, basic reading books, reference books etc), and group games (such as bingo, crossword puzzles, scrabble, snakes and ladders, twister etc).
Volunteers, such as Kasia, give so much of their time and personal resources to make volunteer programs a success. Kasia is using her personal savings and has been working hard to raise the funds needed to enable her to contribute to this opportunity to help others. If you are able to help support Kasia financially in some way it would be greatly appreciated.
Program and Application Fees for Kasia to volunteer in the Kenya Volunteer Program for 6 weeks are $1150.00 US dollars and as well as this volunteers are asked to pay for their airfares, entry Visa, vaccinations and insurance. As you can see volunteering does come at a cost.
Kasia and the Global Volunteer Network would appreciate any donations you can give to enable the Orphanage program to continue using volunteers and benefiting not only the children that Kasia will come into contact with but also those in the local community who she may inspire to help others in less fortunate circumstances than themselves.
You can talk more to Kasia if you have any questions about the program or if you prefer to contact myself directly you can do so by phone or email. I would like to take this time to thank you for considering this worthy cause. Your financial aid will enable Kasia to participate in an experience which will assist an African community in need.
I take this time to thank Kasia for her dedication and efforts that will be made during her time in Kenya and know that without her volunteer efforts there would be one less person to aid those that are asking for help.
Yours truly,
